A native of Derby and a 1999 graduate of St. Francis High School, Dr. Mata received his Bachelors of Science in Biology from Canisius College in 2003.  He then attended the Duke University School of Medicine from which he graduated in 2007.  He immediately proceeded into internship and an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Duke which he finished in 2012.

Most recently, he completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship with MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland where his practice provided team coverage for the Washington Nationals professional baseball team and the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL, in addition to college teams such as, Johns Hopkins lacrosse, Towson University, Morgan State University, and Loyola University. Currently, he is the US Lacrosse Team Physician, and provides sports medicine care for local high school athletes as well as Fredonia State athletes in collaboration with Brooks Sports Medicine.

Dr. Mata joined Lakeshore Orthopedic Group in August 2013. Along with his wife and two young children, Dr. Mata is excited to be back home in Western NY.
